Goals of Youth Squad
The main aim of the Community Ambulance Youth Squad is to teach young people so they’re ready to join the main Community Ambulance Company when they turn 18.
The Community Ambulance Company, serving areas like Bayport, Bohemia, Oakdale, Sayville, and West Sayville, is always on the lookout for new volunteer members. These volunteers help provide essential ambulance services. Training young members early ensures we always have a team ready to help out.
How old do you have to be to join?
We allow young adults at the age of 14 years to join the Community Ambulance Company Youth Squad.
What does Youth Squad do?
As a member of the Youth Squad, members will be trained in all aspects of pre-hospital emergency care. This includes patient assessment, CPR, bleeding control, fracture management, oxygen administration, and other trauma and medical emergencies. In addition members are invited to attend all company trainings, drills and parades.
When do we meet?
Meetings are every other Wednesday from 7:00 pm to 8:00 pm during the school year.
Attendance is crucial to maintain continuity in training.
How long does Youth Squad training last?
Once members turn 16, they become eligible to join our ambulance observer program. In this program, they can spend a few hours each week (between 3 to 6 hours) experiencing firsthand what happens on the ambulance during emergencies. However, participants need to demonstrate the right level of maturity and complete all required training.
Parents or guardians must give their approval for their child to join this program. They’ll also need to attend a brief meeting to get an overview of the program.

The parents/guardians must give permission for participation in this program and attend a short orientation.
