No medical experience? No problem! Liz dives in, grabs her EMT certification, and BOOM—she’s one of the top responders at Community Ambulance.

But hold up, it’s not your typical climb to the top. Liz starts at the bottom, takes on roles that would make your head spin, all while juggling an MBA, rocking her New York State EMT-CC certification and working full time in tech.

Now, here comes the plot twist. Community Ambulance isn’t just a volunteer gig for Liz; it’s the scene of a career 180 epiphany; from business savant to HR champion, Liz discovers her true calling working directly with others. And guess what? The story doesn’t end here; Liz kicks it into high gear, earning her Masters in Human Resources while stepping into the Chief’s office at the onset of a pandemic.

Thomas Young

1st Assistant Chief | 3-28-31

TJ has been a member of Community Ambulance Co. since 2004, joining when he was in high school.  Throughout the years he has held numerous leadership positions, and was elected to the Chief’s Office in 2021.  He has been certified as an advanced life support provider since 2006 and is currently certified as a New York State Paramedic.  He works full time for Suffolk County as a Deputy Sheriff and is a lifelong resident of the Ambulance District.  He lives in Oakdale with his wife Therese and their two daughters Marielle and Charlotte.

Daniel Schappert

2nd Assistant Chief | 3-28-32

Dan has been a vital member of the emergency services community since 2008, currently serving as the 2nd Assistant Chief at Community Ambulance Company. His ascent to this role followed valuable experiences as Captain from 2020-2023 and Lieutenant in 2019. Before joining CAC, Dan contributed significantly to the Port Jefferson Volunteer Ambulance, reflecting his deep-rooted commitment to aiding others. In addition to his leadership duties, Dan shares his knowledge as an instructor in EVOC, CEVO, and Communications, guiding his colleagues in these critical areas. His expertise also extends to serving as an Emergency Services Dispatcher and an EMT for various Suffolk County agencies, showcasing his versatility in the field. Dan's academic pursuits in Technical Theatre and Automated Lighting and Stage Rigging at Suffolk County Community College highlights his diverse interests and continuous learning spirit. Away from his professional responsibilities, Dan enjoys photography, hiking, and spending time with his dog, Norman, balancing his life with creative and leisure activities.

2024 Captains

Jordan Echevarria | 3-28-51

Jordan joined Community Ambulance in the beginning of 2019 due to the inspiration of her grandfather, a life member and Ex-Chief at Bayport Fire Department. Jordan grew up watching volunteers devote their time to help the people of the community. Once she graduated Bayport Blue-Point high school, she thought it would be a good idea to join CAC with her best friend. With no experience in the medical field, she became very inspired by the community’s unity in times of hardship. She received her EMT-B in January of 2020, right in time for the COVID-19 pandemic. Jordan is an Ex-Lieutenant and second year Captain for 2024. Outside of CAC, Jordan has her 100 Ton Masters Captain license and is employed at Davis Park Ferry Company. She also works at her family’s small business, Aiello Bros. Pork Store. In her free time, Jordan enjoys painting, watching scary movies and bringing her dogs, Jaxon and Mabel, to the beach.

John Spaun | 3-28-52

John joined the world of emergency medicine in April of 2019. John's family has a long history of careers of civil service and volunteering and often told stories at the dinner table. This inspired John to want to join a department and give back to his community; becoming part of something bigger. In April of 2019 John joined the Community Ambulance Company and never looked back. John states, "The fulfillment I have received and the friends and memories I have created along the way have changed my life." In addition to the friends and memories, Community Ambulance provided John with the means to obtain his EMT-B certification, as well as becoming a certified CPR instructor through the American Heart Association. John is most honored to be teaching new people the life saving skills he has acquired since the start of his career at Community Ambulance Company.

Steven Kind Jr. | 3-28-53

Steven joined Community Ambulance Company in 2016 after graduating from Connetquot High School. He joined CAC to give back to and better serve his community, being born and raised in Oakdale, New York. After being trained by Community Ambulance Company, Steven fell in love with EMS and made it his career, working in the fast-paced NYC 911 System and the Nassau County System. Steven brings a wealth of knowledge to the role, having also served as an Emergency Medical Dispatcher, showcasing a comprehensive understanding of pre-hospital care and effective emergency response coordination.

Keri White | 3-28-54

Keri joined Community Ambulance in January of 2018. Her motivation has always been rooted in her profound interest in healthcare and a heartfelt commitment to helping others during critical moments. Shortly after joining Community Ambulance, Keri was honored as Member of the Year for 2019 by the membership for her dedication to the company. After taking on a more active role in EMS by working as an EMT full time, Keri decided to expand her medical knowledge by becoming an Advanced Life Support provider and now works full time as a Paramedic at neighboring agencies.  Beyond her role as a Paramedic, Keri carries a personal connection to her career aspirations. In 2022, she experienced the loss of her mother to pancreatic cancer. This poignant experience has fueled Keri's determination to hopefully pursue a career in nursing with a focus in oncology. Her goal is to bring compassionate care to those battling cancer, drawing from her own personal journey. Outside of EMS you can be sure to find Keri petting puppies, singing karaoke, and going on spontaneous road trips. 

2024 Lieutenants

Vincent Fattarusso | 3-28-61

Vinny has been with Community Ambulance since 2019. Growing up in Sayville, Vinny started his first responding volunteer career with Sayville Fire Department in 2005. He has been volunteering at the fire department for almost 20 years and is an Ex-Captain. Vinny joined the ambulance company to help out the community further.  Vinny entered as an associate member at Community Ambulance Company and was quickly a qualified Driver in no time and a top responder in 2020. To be a more skilled set of hands on calls, he decided to pursue his EMT-B certification. Vinny not only volunteers on his Wednesday night duty crew shift, he also will help out on Friday and Saturday nights as well. He keeps his radio on him off duty and is always ready to respond to an emergency call in the community. Vinny dedicates his time to helping others in the community and the other members at the company. He is a part of the driver training committee and he will assist members through the process of being able to become qualified to drive the ambulances. Learning more and more, in 2023 Vinny was Operational Secretary, in this position he handled crew scheduling,  insuring crews were ready to respond to alarms.  This year  Vinny was appointed Lieutenant where he will be continuing to further help the membership and his community. 

Kaitlyn Curry | 3-28-62

Kaitlyn joined the Community Ambulance Company in 2021 with the desire to help others.  Growing up in a household of first responders she realized that helping others in need was something special she wanted to be a part of. Kaitlyn received her EMT certification shortly after joining Community Ambulance, where the members became her second family and Community Ambulance became her home away from home. Kaitlyn has dedicated her time to the community by riding on her Wednesday night duty crew shift and answering calls when needed. Kaitlyn wanted to take her career a step further in the healthcare field as she got accepted into the Suffolk County Community College Nursing Program. Kaitlyn goes to nursing school while continuing to volunteer and serve her community; caring and helping others is her passion. After gaining much experience at Community Ambulance Company, Kaitlyn decided she wanted to start a job in EMS. After much time and devotion, Kaitlyn was appointed a lieutenant at Community Ambulance Company and guides new aspiring members throughout their journey to serve the community. Kaitlyn is looking forward to taking her career further and helping others along their journey to achieve their goals.


Sunny Ferrara | 3-28-63

Sunny has been with Community Ambulance for a significant amount of time. She was exposed to first responding at a young age, by her father, an Ex-Chief of North Massapequa Fire Department. Following in his footsteps, Sunny was influenced to join Community Ambulance’s Youth Squad program in 2006. Being only 13, she was taught how to obtain vital signs, backboard patients, provide CPR and educated on the foundations of the emergency medical field. As time progressed, Sunny became a probationary member at 18 years old, and continued to become a regular member after completing her EMT-B certification. Becoming an EMT helped Sunny to care for her grandmother, when diagnosed with pancreatic and liver cancer. After her passing, Sunny became determined to help others in their time of need. With the support of her own family, her ambulance clan and the determination to make her grandmother proud, Sunny earned her Bachelor's degree in Communication Science Disorders and her Masters in Speech-Language Pathology. Since, she has become an ASHA Speech-Language Pathologist licensed in New York State and South Carolina. Sunny specializes in the pediatric population and has dabbled in the geriatric population. Sunny is always working towards helping those who cannot speak for themselves. When she is not volunteering her time with us or working as a Speech Pathologist, Sunny is an animal care  and cruelty-free advocate. 

Gianna Minogue | 3-28-64

Meet Gianna Minogue, our district native and first-time lieutenant, ready to tackle emergencies with unmatched expertise and a cool demeanor. With a Master of Health Sciences and a B.A. in Neuroscience, Gianna is not your average EMT. Her introduction to the world of emergency medicine began during the heart of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020. With a fresh EMT-B certificate in hand, Gianna joined the Community Ambulance Company. Having logged countless hours at Northwell Center for Emergency Medical Services since 2022, she's now a seasoned pro at providing basic life support and ensuring patient safety during ambulance transport across the five boroughs and Long Island. As an EMT at Community Ambulance Company, Gianna is not just a responder; she's a vital part of the team. From handling BLS equipment to serving as a BLS CPR/AED Instructor, she's on the front lines of emergency care. But it's not just about the calls – Gianna is a Field Training Officer, a Youth Squad mentor, and a crucial member of various committees, ensuring that the next generation of EMTs are well-prepared. Beyond the medical scene, Gianna coaches lacrosse and field hockey, instilling the same dedication and discipline into young athletes as she does in emergency situations. When she is not on the sports field or in the medical field, you can find Gianna wandering down whatever road the next adventure takes her.

2024 Operational Secretary

Adam Moussa | 3-28-745

Adam, a lifelong resident of Bohemia, joined Community Ambulance in 2022, bringing with him a wealth of experience from his ongoing roles as a firefighter with the West Sayville Fire Department and as an Emergency Dispatcher for the Bayport Fire District. His EMT certification, obtained in 2021, was a natural progression in his commitment to community service. In his role at Community Ambulance, Adam leverages his diverse emergency response skills. He's also a certified CPR instructor through the American Heart Association, a testament to his dedication to lifesaving techniques and public education. Adam's training covers a wide range of emergency response areas, including technical rescue, confined space operations, and incident command systems. This training reflects his comprehensive approach to emergency management. Balancing his service roles, Adam also excels as a Certified Project Manager managing a national industrial contracting firm, demonstrating his innate versatility and leadership skills.

Jamie Atkinson

Vice President

Since joining Community Ambulance Co., Inc. in 1999, Jamie has demonstrated unwavering dedication. Beginning his journey with the Youth Squad, he quickly affirmed his commitment by advancing to a Regular member status. Through his hard work and dedication, Jamie ascended the ranks and distinguished himself as one of the company's youngest Chiefs, culminating his leadership in 2013. As Chief of the Department, Jamie meticulously managed all operational facets of the company. Under his stewardship, the company solidified its inter-agency collaborations with neighboring agencies, Long Island MacArthur Airport Fire Rescue, and the Islip Volunteer Ambulance Companies. With his term as Chief concluded, Jamie is eager to contribute his insights and fervor to a new role as a Board Member of Community Ambulance Company. Beyond the company, Jamie's expertise has been recognized by the Suffolk County Legislature, leading to multiple appointments to both the County Child Fatality Review Team and the Citizens Corps Council. A proud lifelong resident, Jamie's heart remains firmly rooted in the Sayville area.

Mike Duffy

Director

Mike Duffy began his journey with Community Ambulance Company in August 2005, quickly earning his EMT certificate the following year. Holding a Bachelor's degree in History from Adelphi, Mike's sense of duty led him to serve as a Lieutenant with the company in 2009. That same year marked another milestone for him as he joined the ranks of the NYPD. Juggling the responsibilities of a full-time police officer, Mike impressively secured a position as a top ten responder on three occasions. He once again took on the role of Lieutenant for Community Ambulance in 2017 and 2018. Despite his busy schedule, Mike is committed to volunteering every Monday night alongside some dear friends at the company. In his professional life, Mike continues to serve and protect as a Narcotics Detective with the NYPD.

James MacDonell

Marc MacDonell

Treasurer

Marc embarked on his journey with Community Ambulance Company in April 1977. He swiftly achieved his EMT status and ascended the organizational ranks. By 1979, he was appointed Crew Chief of his duty shift, a role he passionately served in for over 25 years. Additionally, Marc dedicated 15 years serving nightly shifts in the Responder car. His leadership prowess was recognized in 1984 when he was elected to the Board of Directors. By 1993, he took on the role of Treasurer, a position he continues to uphold. As Treasurer, Marc meticulously manages the company's financial affairs, navigates daily business challenges, and serves as the primary liaison with the company's General Counsel. Between 2011 and 2014, Marc played a pivotal role in leading the committee responsible for designing and inaugurating the new ambulance headquarters, which was unveiled in October 2014. On a personal note, the Community Ambulance Company holds a special place in Marc's heart. He met his beloved wife, MaryAnn, at the company. Now, with a marriage spanning 37 years, their legacy continues as their children, Colleen and James, are active members. James, having joined in 2008, has even risen to the esteemed position of Chief.
